Capital One Venture X for Families: 2 Guests Free in the Lounge (2026)
The Capital One Venture X ($395/year) is the underrated premium card for families. Lounge access for the cardholder + 2 adults + minor children for free — including via Priority Pass with the whole family. $300 Travel Credit + 10,000 Anniversary Miles from year 2 = effectively free. Comparison with AMEX Platinum US and Chase Sapphire Reserve.
Quick answer: The Capital One Venture X ($395/year) is the best premium card for families with US card access in 2026. Main benefit: cardholder + 2 guests + minor children for free in Capital One Lounges AND Priority Pass — with the Sapphire Reserve and AMEX Platinum, guests often cost extra. Plus: $300 Travel Credit + 10,000 Anniversary Miles ($100 value) from year 2 = effectively under $0/year. Welcome bonus typically 75,000 Venture Miles + $4,000 spend in 3 months. Earn rates: 10x hotels through CapOne Travel, 5x flights. Points transfer 1:1 to 15+ airlines (Avianca, Aer Lingus, Singapore, Etihad, Cathay, etc.). Non-Hyatt path — if you use Hyatt, you need Chase.

If you travel with your family, you know the problem: lounge access is often only free for the cardholder + a maximum of 1 guest. With the AMEX Platinum US Centurion Lounge there are often restrictions for cardholders’ children, and with the Chase Sapphire Reserve in Sapphire Lounges the rule is “cardholder + 2 adults + minor children free” — the Capital One Venture X does the same thing for $400 less per year.
This article shows why the Venture X is the underrated family card of 2026.

Downsides / where the Venture X isn’t as strong
1. No Hyatt transfer
Hyatt is Chase UR exclusive. If you prioritize Hyatt hotels, you’re better off with the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Preferred — though since June 2026 only the Reserve keeps the Hyatt transfer at 1:1; the Preferred switches to 4:3 starting October 2026.
2. No Centurion Lounge
Capital One Lounges are not AMEX Centurion. Currently 5 CapOne lounges (DFW, IAD, DEN, LAS, LAX) plus Priority Pass + Plaza Premium. If you want to use the exclusive Centurion Lounges, you need AMEX.
3. High earn rates only through CapOne Travel
10x hotels and 5x flights only apply when you book through CapOne Travel — not when booking directly with the provider. If you always book direct, you only earn 2x.
4. Point value in the portal only 1 cent/mile
In the CapOne Travel portal: 1 cent per mile. Sapphire Reserve: 1.5 cents. CapOne is transfer-focused, not portal-focused.
Who should get the Venture X?
✅ Pro-Venture X
- Families with 2+ adult guests
- Anyone who rents Hertz regularly (President’s Circle is worth its weight in gold)
- Anyone who books a lot through CapOne Travel (10x hotels)
- Anyone who wants a third US card to complement AMEX + Chase
- Anyone looking for low premium-card costs (effectively $0/year)
❌ Contra-Venture X
- Anyone who prioritizes Hyatt hotels (→ Chase)
- Anyone who prioritizes Centurion Lounges (→ AMEX Plat US)
- Anyone who flies only once per year (→ no need for the card)
- Anyone who doesn’t do US travel (CapOne Travel booking doesn’t scale in the EU)
How you get the Venture X as a German
Compared to Chase, Capital One is more moderate with German applicants, but stricter than AMEX:
- No direct Global Transfer (Capital One has no DE program)
- SSN or ITIN required to apply
- US address (can be a mailbox, but non-CMRA preferred)
- Credit history in the USA helps (can be built up with an ITIN)
Requirement: At least an ITIN. Not possible with only Global Transfer.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Is it true that the Venture X is effectively free?
From year 2, yes, if you use the credits. $395 annual fee - $300 Travel Credit - $100 Anniversary Miles = -$5 (positive!). Plus Hertz President’s Circle, CLEAR/PreCheck credit, lounge visits → effectively $200-500 value per year.
Which lounges can I use with the Venture X?
- Capital One Lounges (5 locations: DFW, IAD, DEN, LAS, LAX)
- Priority Pass Select (1,800+ lounges worldwide)
- Plaza Premium Lounges (50+ locations internationally)
Who gets free guest access?
Cardholder + 2 adult guests + minor children. This rule applies to all three lounge programs above. Compared to AMEX Centurion: often stricter.
Are Venture Miles the same as Venture Rewards Miles?
Yes. “Venture Miles” and “Venture Rewards Miles” are the same thing — Capital One uses both terms interchangeably.
How big is the welcome bonus in 2026?
As of May 2026: typically 75,000 Venture Miles + $4,000 spend in 3 months. Public offer; targeted offers can reach 90,000+, but are rare.
Which path is better for families — Venture X or Sapphire Reserve?
Venture X for pure travel-companion benefits (same lounge access, half the fee). Sapphire Reserve for Hyatt family vacations and DoorDash use. Both have their strengths.
When is the Venture X worth it compared to the Venture Rewards (regular)?
Regular Venture Rewards: $95/year, 75k welcome, 2x on everything. Venture X: $395/year, 75k welcome, 10x hotels through CapOne Travel + lounge + Travel Credit. The Venture X is worth it from 5+ trips per year with lounge use.
Does the Venture X have 5/24 problems?
Capital One does not follow the Chase 5/24 rule. Capital One has its own restrictions (e.g. a 2 Capital One cards at once cap, 6 months between applications), but 5/24 is Chase-specific.
Is the Hertz President’s Circle status worth it?
Yes. Free mid-class rental car on premium bookings, free upgrades to higher classes, skip-the-line service. If you book 3+ rental cars per year, you’ll get $150-300/year in value.
Conclusion: The underrated card
The Capital One Venture X is the best family premium card of 2026 — but not the best card for everyone. If you prioritize Hyatt: Chase. If you want AMEX MR sweet spots: AMEX. If you want to combine family + lounge + anniversary bonus + 1:1 transfers + low net cost: Venture X.
Optimal US stack 2026:
- AMEX Platinum US (welcome bonus 175k MR) → Avianca/ANA sweet spots
- Chase Sapphire Reserve or Preferred → Hyatt + United (note: the Hyatt transfer is only 1:1 on the Reserve; the Preferred switches to 4:3 starting October 2026)
- Capital One Venture X → family lounge + Hertz + Aeroplan backup
Three points ecosystems, three strengths — and the Venture X is the cheapest piece of the trio.
Note: Transfer ratios are snapshots and change constantly (most recently Chase→Hyatt in June 2026). Always check the current rate directly with the program before transferring points. As of this article: June 2026.
